Electricity workers are staging a protest today in Colombo against the proposed Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Bill, which they claim aims to privatize the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). 

Organized by the Ceylon Electricity Workers Union, employees are reporting sick leave to join the demonstration outside the CEB Head Office. 

The Engineers’ Union has also expressed support and warned of future trade union action if employee concerns are not addressed. 

The bill is set for its second reading in Parliament on Thursday.
