The United National Party has called for established procedures to be followed when addressing issues related to Buddhist monastic discipline.

In a statement, the party noted that relevant Cabinet proposals should be presented to the Chief Prelates and the Maha Sangha before any decisions are made.

The UNP also alleged that the views of the Buddhist clergy and lay community are being sidelined in discussions concerning the Buddhasasana and Buddhism.
