The ruling National People’s Power (NPP) Party’s Colombo Mayoral candidate Vraie Cally Balthazaar will be the Mayor of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), according to the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, K.D. Lal Kantha.

Speaking to the media in Kandy, Lal Kantha claimed that they have already established power in the CMC and have finalised the appointment of the Mayor as well. He further claimed that only the formalities and the official announcement are due.

Lal Kantha noted that the NPP will continue its expansion by joining hands with other political factions. He said that the NPP worked with several factions at the Presidential Election and the Parliamentary General Election and that therefore, the Local Government (LG) Elections is no different. According to Lal Kantha, the NPP will work with other factions, where necessary, to establish power in the LG bodies. He opined that it is the democratic right of the NPP to establish power where it has secured a majority number of councilors and members.
