Three individuals were arrested in connection with a shooting in Kalutara involving a candidate who contested at the Local Government (LG) elections for the Kalutara Municipal Council.

According to reports, the shooting took place on 4 May in Nagoda, Kalutara, targeting Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) candidate Bandula Prasanna. 

In the ensuing investigations, Police were able to recover the motorcycle and firearm used by the gunmen. Investigation also led to the arrests of 3 suspects. 

Further investigations led Police to discover 6 additional motorcycles, suspected to have been stolen by the arrestees and given to an organised crime group member Bombuwala Naveen. 

Accordingly, the arrested suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court (MC).
