Minister of Power and Energy Anura Karunathilaka stated that over 2,700 MW of new capacity is expected to be added to Sri Lanka’s national grid from 2027 to 2029.
The planned additions include 1,392 MW from solar, 370 MW from wind and 1,000 MW from battery storage.
The Minister noted that battery storage will allow excess daytime solar power to be stored and supplied during nighttime hours.
