The National People’s Power (NPP) has secured control of the Ratnapura Municipal Council and two Pradeshiya Sabhas, Dambulla and Kalpitiya strengthening its Local Government (LG) presence.
In Ratnapura, NPP councillor K.A.D.R.I. Katugampala was elected Mayor with 14 votes, defeating the opposition candidate, who received 12.
W\.M. Tilakarathna of the NPP was elected Chairman of the Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha after obtaining 15 votes, outpacing candidates from the People’s Alliance and Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
In Kalpitiya, Abdul Sattar Mohamed Rikkas won the chairmanship for the NPP by a narrow margin, polling 16 votes to the SJB candidate’s 15.
