Blocks 1 and 2 of Yala National Park have been temporarily closed to tourists from today (14) due to prevailing dry weather conditions.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation and Forest Conservation stated that the closure will remain in effect until 15 October 2026.

Several water sources in the park have dried up, while dry vegetation has caused shortages of food and water for wildlife.

Wildlife officers are supplying water to ponds using solar-powered pumps and water bowsers, with around 200,000 litres transported daily.
