Modernisation work on the Hingurakgoda Railway Station in the Polonnaruwa District has commenced under a program aimed at upgrading facilities at 100 railway stations across the island. The project is being implemented as a public-private partnership under the national “Clean Sri Lanka” program. Located between the Gal Oya and Polonnaruwa Railway Stations on the Eastern Railway Line, the Hingurakgoda Railway Station currently operates with minimal facilities and has not undergone significant development for nearly 45 yeaRs The Station is extensively used not only by passengers but also for the transportation of various agricultural products. The modernisation project is being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 40 million.
