Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has criticised the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, comparing its potential impact to the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

Speaking at a fundraising event in Wattala to support the construction of homes for 100 families affected by the cyclone, he alleged that the amendment could weaken the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary.

Premadasa also accused the Government of seeking to undermine judicial independence and establish a one-party system.

He called for improved disaster preparedness, including measures to minimise damage to hydropower generation and other sectors.
