The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation says rehabilitation work on the spillway of the Kala Wewa reservoir will commence tomorrow (16) to address a long-standing water leakage issue.
According to the Ministry, the gate-free spillway has been experiencing significant leakage for more than 42 years, resulting in the loss of large volumes of irrigation water intended for farming communities in the Rajarata region.
The project, valued at over Rs. 75 million, is expected to provide a long-term technical solution to the problem. It will be implemented by the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka with funding from the Integrated Water Productivity and Water Resources Management Project under the guidance of the Irrigation Ministry.
