The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued a gazette notification establishing Maximum Retail Prices (MRP) for several varieties of imported rice, effective from yesterday(21).

Under the new regulations, the MRPs per kilogram are: Raw Rice Rs. 210, Nadu Rs. 220, Samba Rs. 230, Ponni Samba (equivalent to Keeri Samba) Rs. 240, and Kiri Ponni or Paal Ponni Rs. 255.

The prices are immediately applicable to ensure consumers are protected against price gouging on essential imported commodities.
