The Sri Lanka Book Publishers’ Association has warned that taxes on printed books are putting pressure on the publishing industry.

The association claims 50–60% of authors have moved to other occupations and around 40% of publishing companies have left the industry over the past three years.

It has urged the government to remove VAT and other taxes on printed books, citing rising prices and declining sales.
