A special commemorative stamp celebrating 100 years of Sri Lankan cinema was unveiled yesterday (21) at the National Film Corporation premises.
The event marked 79 years of Sinhala cinema and 54 years since the establishment of the National Film Corporation.
Patronized by Minister Hiniduma Sunil Senevi and attended by Deputy Minister Kaushalya Ariyarathna, the celebration featured the release of a “1925–2025: A Century of Sri Lankan Cinema” themed stamp and first-day cover, highlighting veteran actress Iranganie Serasinghe’s significant contributions to the industry.
The event also honored actress Sriyani Amarasena with a special award for her role in the cinematic heritage. A lecture by Sunil Wijesiriwardena traced the evolution of Sri Lankan cinema from the silent film era of 1925 to the present day.
Organized by the State and National Film Corporations, the celebration recognized the country’s cinematic journey and its cultural importance, as Sri Lanka approaches the centenary milestone in 2025.
