Jaffna Kings co-owner and another Indian national remanded

Two Indian nationals, including a co-owner of the Jaffna Kings franchise in the Lanka Premier League, have been remanded until 31 July over alleged attempts to influence players to engage in match-fixing.


The suspects were arrested by the Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Offences Related to Sports and produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.


Investigators told court that the suspects allegedly offered money to players to fix four LPL matches. The court was also informed that telephone recordings and video evidence had been obtained.


The Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered the suspects to remain in remand custody, citing the ongoing investigation.
