SL ready for more peacekeeping tasks

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Arun Hemachandra said that Sri Lanka is ready to take on greater responsibilities in support of United Nations (UN) peacekeeping.


He led the Sri Lankan delegation to the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial meeting held from 13-14 May in Berlin, Germany, and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to advancing global peace and security through principled, accountable engagement.

Delivering Sri Lanka’s statement during the High Level Segment of the Ministerial meeting, he highlighted the efforts of the new Government towards comprehensive reforms aimed at strengthening professionalism, transparency, and the protection of human dignity including within the security and defence sectors. He further reiterated the commitment of the new Government to contribute meaningfully to global peace and security. 

He stated that the UN could continue to consider Sri Lanka as a trusted and capable partner in advancing the shared objectives of effective, responsive, and resilient peacekeeping.
