Sri Lanka achieved unprecedented success at the World English-Language Scrabble Players’ Association (WESPA) World Youth Scrabble Championship in Thailand, securing a clean sweep of the podium with Hivin Dilmith, Adheesha Dissanayake, and Kavindu Malawaraarachchi claiming first, second, and third places respectively among 142 players from 17 nations.
The 10-member Sri Lankan team showcased dominance, securing the Best Team title for the second consecutive year.
16-year-old Hivin Dilmith of Mahinda College Galle emerged as the World Youth Scrabble Champion, while 15-year-old Adheesha Dissanayake of Gateway College Colombo not only secured the overall first runner-up position but also claimed the Under-16 World Champion title.
17-year-old Kavindu Malawaraarachchi of Royal College Colombo emerged as the second runner-up, ensuring the first-ever clean sweep of the top-three spots for the first time in the tournament's history.
Additionally, Imad Irshad received recognition for achieving the highest game score, with an impressive 708 points.
