The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning alerting the public that showers and thundershowers are expected to occur in many parts of the country after 1:00 p.m. today (24).

According to the forecast, several areas could experience heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces. Coastal regions in the Southern Province and the Kalutara District are also likely to see showers.

Early morning conditions are expected to be misty in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, and Uva provinces, along with the Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts.

At sea, thundershowers are anticipated along the stretch from Kalutara to Batticaloa, passing through Galle, Hambantota, and Pottuvil. Other maritime areas around the island may also experience isolated thundershowers.

Winds are predicted to blow mainly from the south-east or be variable in direction, with speeds of 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions are generally expected to remain slight; however, strong gusty winds and rough seas may occur temporarily during thunderstorms.
