Petition calls for SLC Chairman’s resignation

24 Mar 2026 | BY Staff Writer

A group of activists visited the Presidential Secretariat Colombo today (24) seeking to hand over a petition calling for the resignation of Shammi Silva, Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Organisers said the petition, which has gathered thousands of online signatures, urges the Chairman to step down immediately in the interest of the sport, citing recent concerns over the administration of the board.

Speaking to the media, the group stated that the petition was addressed to the President and aimed at highlighting growing public dissatisfaction, particularly in light of recent allegations of corruption discussed in Parliament.

The activists said they were unable to meet the President today but plan to return later this week to formally submit the document.

They also called for the appointment of a special committee or commission to investigate the matter, stressing the need for accountability and reforms within Sri Lanka Cricket. No official response has yet been issued by Sri Lanka Cricket.
