A raid by the Police Special Task Force (STF) in Ibbawala, Weligama, has led to the arrest of two suspects, including a woman, and the seizure of T-56 assault rifles, ammunition, and heroin.
Acting on intelligence, STF officers attached to the Matara Camp raided a property in Dolosgoda Watta on Tuesday evening (24). They uncovered four T-56 firearms, 27 rounds of live ammunition, an ammunition bag, and 2.85 grams of heroin.
One of the suspects, a 38-year-old man from Ibbawala, was found with Rs. 830,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from heroin trafficking. His 37-year-old female accomplice, also from the area, was arrested for aiding and abetting.
During interrogation, officers arrested another suspect linked to a conspiracy to commit a serious crime, though details of the alleged plot have not been disclosed.
All suspects have been handed over to Weligama Police, who are continuing investigations.
