Sri Lanka reports between 8,500 and 9,500 tuberculosis (TB) cases each year, according to the National Programme for Tuberculosis Control and Chest Diseases (NPTCCD).
Nearly 45% of cases are reported from the Western Province, health officials noted.
In 2025, 8,726 TB cases were identified, with 93% newly diagnosed and around 75% classified as pulmonary TB.
Authorities emphasised that TB spreads through the respiratory system and highlighted the importance of early detection and treatment.
