Despite progress in school enrollment and education quality, Sri Lanka faces a shortage of over 42,000 teachers and disparities in rural areas, necessitating systematic education reform. 

While digital education initiatives have been launched, they lack proper structure. 

The Cabinet has approved a proposal by the Prime Minister (PM) Harini Amarasuriya, also the Minister of Education, to establish a task force for digital transformation in education, chaired by the Prime Minister’s Secretary and including key ministry stakeholders.
