United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk is set to visit Sri Lanka from 23 to 26 June, marking the first such visit by a UN rights chief since 2016.
During his stay, Türk will hold meetings with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, senior Government officials, religious leaders, diplomats, and civil society representatives.
He is also expected to travel to Kandy, where he will visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and meet with the Chief Prelates of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters, before heading to Jaffna and Trincomalee for further engagements.
The visit will focus on advancing human rights, reconciliation, and continued cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
