The United National Party (UNP) has declined an invitation from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to attend its May Day rally.

UNP General Secretary Thalatha Atukorale stated the party will dedicate the day to religious observances as May Day falls on a Poya Day this year.

She noted the UNP will not take part in political rallies on that day but remains open to future collaboration with the SJB.
