The expansion of PayPal services in Sri Lanka was officially announced today (15) at an event held at the Galle Face Hotel under the patronage of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
According to the President’s Media Division, PayPal services will initially be available through Bank of Ceylon, Commercial Bank of Ceylon and Sampath Bank, with more banks expected to join later.
Officials noted that the expansion is aimed at improving secure cross-border payment access for freelancers, entrepreneurs, start-ups and businesses in Sri Lanka.
Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne stated that the initiative forms part of the government’s plan to expand Sri Lanka’s digital economy and improve formal digital payment systems.
