Rotary Metro-Italian Car Enthusiasts Club presents Rotary Italia Charity Car Rally 2023

10 Feb 2023

The Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan (RCCM), in partnership with the Italian Car Enthusiasts Club (ICEC), will hold the inaugural Rotary Italia Charity Car Rally on Sunday (12) 2023. The event will commence at 7 a.m. at the Excel World Car Park. The charity rally has over 40 participants that have registered thus far and is open to all cars of all makes and models. The participants of the rally can look forward to a fun-filled day of driving with camaraderie.

The Rotary Italia Charity Car Rally is being organised to collect funds to uplift two schools – namely the Wethara Maha Vidyalaya and Olaboduwa Zoysa Maha Vidyalaya, Gonapola – in aid of the construction of toilets and a computer lab. With each registration, a stationery pack will also be provided for a less fortunate child. These community development projects are initiated, monitored, and managed by the RCCM.

Interested parties with a valid driving licence to drive in Sri Lanka and a road-friendly vehicle that is insured can register to support this cause. The registration fee is Rs. 5,000 per vehicle – this includes a snack pack for the drive. Each vehicle can have a maximum of four participants per vehicle or a minimum of two persons which would be the driver and a navigator. The rally route and rules will be shared via email once the registration is confirmed. For further information on the rally contact Rasika at 077 990 0373.

RCCM President Dilini Hennayake, speaking about the event, said: “Our aim in organising this charity rally is to help build and empower our underprivileged communities. We are helping to uplift two schools selected by us in the Kesbewa area. RCCM has many projects that involve assisting the less fortunate children of our country. A few projects that involve children are the child-friendly police station in Ragama and the Two Hearts Project which helps to fund children on the waiting list in LRH.”

ICEC President Dayan Fernando said: “We are pleased to extend our partnership with the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan with their community development projects. We hope the event is fun as well as challenging to all participants.”

The platinum sponsor of the event is Emergence Education Consultants, Director/CEO Hiran de Silva said: “We are happy to partner with the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan in such a worthy cause in helping the children of this country. Emergence Education Consultants was established in May 2010 with the scope of providing consultancy services in education and career guidance to students who aspire to pursue higher studies overseas.
