Nine people, including a foreign couple, were injured in a head-on collision between a car and a van on the Anuradhapura–Kandy main road, police stated.

Police noted that the car, travelling from Anuradhapura towards Colombo, collided with a van coming from the opposite direction.

The foreign couple and the car driver sustained serious injuries, while van passengers were also injured and admitted to Maradankadawala Hospital before being transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

Maradankadawala Police are conducting further investigations.
