The main Opposition, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), claimed that despite high hopes about the proposed education sector reforms, the Government is preparing to implement reforms that are outdated.
The allegation was leveled by Anti-corruption Force’s Convenor and former SJB Provincial Council member Niroshan Padukka during a press briefing held yesterday (27), where it was stated that the proposed reforms do not include a clear plan for implementation.
Padukka added that the reforms proposed by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya in her capacity as Education Minister do not pay any attention to the Grade Five Scholarship Exam, despite the Government’s stance that it is a burden on children. He explained that although members representing the ruling National People’s Party have advocated for the complete abolition of the exam, the proposed reforms do not present a proper plan in that regard.
