Police say the suspect arrested over the shooting of a police officer in the Katunayake Police Division is a 41-year-old former member of the Civil Defence Force.

The suspect was arrested in Divulapitiya with 31 grams of crystal methamphetamine ("Ice"). Police also recovered the stolen service pistol and the motorcycle used in the incident.

One police officer remains in hospital with gunshot injuries, while investigations are continuing to arrest another suspect believed to be involved.
