The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the appointment of Kahanda Kanaththage Sarath as the new Director General of the Department of Animal Production and Health. 

Sarath, a Special Grade Officer currently serving as Director of the Provincial Department, will first act in the post full time from 4 November 2025 to 3 February 2026. 

This period covers the pre-retirement leave of the current Director General, K A C H A Kothalawala, who retires on 4 February 2026. 

Sarath will then formally take over as Director General on 4 February 2026.
