President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced in Parliament that China’s China’s Export–Import Bank (EXIM)Bank has agreed to provide a new concessionary loan in Chinese Yuan to restart work on the Mirigama–Kadawatha stretch of the Central Expressway.

The project was previously halted due to Sri Lanka’s bankruptcy.

The Cabinet is set to approve the loan next Monday.

The President also said compensation talks are ongoing with the Chinese contractor for damaged equipment.

Plans are underway to begin construction on the Galagedera–Kandy section next year, with efforts to secure foreign or local investment.

Other stalled development projects will be revived within this year, he added.
