The government has approved the purchase of vehicles to support the islandwide Primary Health Care System Improvement Project, funded through a US$ 150 million International Development Association facility.
The project, running from 2024 to 2028, aims to enhance prevention and management of non-communicable diseases, elderly and palliative care, and strengthen community health services, including resilience to climate-related emergencies.
Insufficient transport for field officers such as public health midwives, inspectors, primary care nurses and surveillance teams was identified as a major constraint.
The Cabinet approved the Health Minister’s proposal to procure vehicles to expand home-based care and community outreach.
