Train services on the Northern railway line from Maho to Omanthai are delayed due to incomplete projects and a request for an additional year to finalize the signals system, according to Cabinet Spokesman Minister Vijitha Herath.
He explained that the construction and signals installation were awarded as separate tenders to the same company.
While the railway line renovation is complete, the delay in the signals system means services cannot fully resume.
The Department of Railways has accepted the partially completed line and resumed services after repairs, but construction of railway stations is still ongoing with minor delays.
