Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has strongly criticized the G7 communiqué that defended Israel’s strike on Iran as self-defence, asserting it undermines ongoing US-Iran negotiations and must be rejected.
Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club in Saint Petersburg, Wickremesinghe said the global landscape is witnessing the collapse of the old order and the emergence of a multipolar world shaped not just by state powers, but by military and non-state actors, and institutions like the IMF.
He argued that the Indo-Pacific concept was manufactured to address the Taiwan issue and dismissed its relevance to the Indian Ocean, which he said accepts Taiwan as part of China.
