Government schools closed due to the recent disaster will reopen on December 16 under a phased plan, the Ministry of Education announced. 

An official circular detailing the reopening process will be issued today, Secretary Nalaka Kaluwawa confirmed.

Meanwhile, Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Liyanage said the postponed GCE Advanced Level subjects will be held in January. 

The department is still gathering data on affected students in disaster-hit areas to allocate them to suitable exam centers.
