The Department of Meteorology has stated that the southwest monsoon is expected to establish over Sri Lanka around 26 or 27 May, with heavy rainfall forecast for the southwestern parts of the island from Tuesday.
Authorities noted that water levels in several major rivers, including the Kelani River, are gradually receding following recent heavy rains, although minor flooding continues in parts of the Kalu River basin and Ja-Ela.
The Disaster Management Centre stated that nearly 29,000 people from eight districts have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.
