Police confirmed that Ishara Sewwandi, the main suspect in the 19 February murder of organized crime figure Ganemulla Sanjeewa, was arrested in Nepal during a special operation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and a police special unit with diplomatic assistance.
Four other suspects, including another woman and three associates of underworld figure Kehelbaddara Padma, were also arrested and are expected to be extradited to Sri Lanka soon.
Investigations revealed that Ishara had assisted the shooter by transporting the firearm hidden in a legal book and fled to India and then Nepal, spending approximately Rs. 6.5 million to evade capture.
Authorities also uncovered a separate passport prepared for a decoy to facilitate her escape.
