Former State Minister Premalal Jayasekara had left Sri Lanka before the Supreme Court imposed a travel ban on him, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has revealed.

The Supreme Court on 4 September ordered Jayasekara and two other accused to be prevented from travelling overseas in connection with the 2015 presidential election rally shooting case.

The CID found that Jayasekara had travelled overseas in August while investigating the court order. Police stated that he had arranged his return flight before leaving the country.

The Supreme Court has also directed the three accused to appear before the court on 21 October 2026.
