The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe lightning advisory for several provinces and districts across Sri Lanka.

The alert covers the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern, Northwestern, and North-central provinces, along with the districts of Galle, Matara, and Trincomalee.  

Effective until 11:00 pm, the weather department has issued red alerts to 20 districts and amber alerts to 5 districts. 

Thunderstorms with intense lightning are expected in some areas after 2:00 pm, with the potential for temporary, localized strong winds during the showers.  

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimise damage and stay safe during these weather conditions.
