Minister of Foreign Vijitha Herath stated that there has been no official change regarding the ownership of Kachchatheevu island, despite recent comments made by Indian actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay. 

Addressing the post-Cabinet media briefing today (27), Minister Herath described Vijay's remarks as "political rhetoric" related to ongoing elections in South India, with no diplomatic or official relevance.

He affirmed that Kachchatheevu island remains Sri Lankan territory and that such claims have been made on election platforms before without leading to any change. 

When asked about agreements with Indian Prime (PM) Minister Narendra Modi, the Minister stated that the documents are currently under judicial review, and details cannot be disclosed until the legal process is complete.
