Minister of Industries and entrepreneurship development, Sunil Handunneththi inspected the Nilwala River to assess its potential for tourism and transport. 

The visit, following a Matara District Committee decision, also focused on flood mitigation. 

Key plans include cargo and passenger transport, boosting tourism, connecting Sinharaja via Akuressa, preventing erosion, and clearing waste. 

A technical committee will oversee flood control efforts.
