A prison officer who opened fire to prevent inmates escaping during the Negombo Prison clash has reportedly received death threats from inmates.

The Department of Prisons has taken steps to ensure the officer’s security.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department has taken custody of firearms from the prison as investigations into the unrest continue.
