Former ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Nalin Fernando, convicted on corruption charges related to the 2015 presidential campaign, have been brought before the Supreme Court (SC) for their appeals.

The case involves allegations that the ministers imported 14,000 carrom boards and 1,000 checkers boards through Lanka Sathosa, distributing them to campaign offices of Mahinda Rajapaksa, causing over Rs. 53 million in losses to the government.

Aluthgamage received a 20-year sentence, while Fernando was sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Both have filed appeals to overturn their convictions; the Supreme Court hearing is scheduled to begin today (9) .
