The announcement of ICC list of match officials on Monday (27), for the two semi finals of the ongoing Women’s 50-over World Cup taking place in India, features two Sri Lankan women who have had previous experience in standing in WODIs and WT20Is.
The Lankan duo have also been officiating in the 13th edition of the ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup.
Michell Pereira has been named as the match referee for the second semi final fixture between hosts India and defending champions Australia at Navi Mumbai on Thursday (30).
Pereria, 43, who hails from Trincomalee represented the Colts Cricket Club as a left-handed wicket-keeper batswoman.
Perera, 34, a native of Kalutara turned out for both Colts CC and Army Sports Club as a right-handed batswoman and an occasional slow-bowler in the domestic circuit.
The two on-field umpires for the game between India and Australia will be South African Lauren Agenbeg and England’s Sue Redfern, with Nimali Perera functioning as the fourth umpire.
Meanwhile, Australian Eloise Sheridan and Jamaican Jacqueline Williams will be the two on-field umpires for the first semi final clash of the World Cup between South Africa and England at Guwahati today (29). The match referee will be Indian G.S. Lakshmi.
The 2025 ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup is officiated entirely by women, which is a first in the history of ICC-sanctioned tournaments.
This is also a feat made possible by the global governing body’s work across many years to support, elevate and empower women in cricket.
