President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed MPs from both Government and Opposition to urgently visit their districts to ensure public safety and provide relief as heavy rains and severe weather are expected over the next two days.

During a special discussion at Parliament, the President emphasized the need for MPs to coordinate District and Regional Committees, safeguard lives, monitor infrastructure, and ensure the continuity of essential services, including health, welfare, and education.

Relief measures will include distributing cooked meals and dry rations, compensating families for property and farmland damage, and closely managing irrigation systems and highways in landslide-prone areas.

The meeting, attended by senior officials, Prime Minister (PM) Harini Amarasuriya, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, and disaster management authorities, focused on strengthening rescue operations, monitoring risks, and maintaining public services.
