A holiday resort in Belihuloya and a private company in Bandarawela have been fined Rs. 1 million each for selling bottled water at excessively inflated prices. 

The penalties followed raids by the Consumer Affairs Authority, which acted on information about illegal price hikes. 

The Balangoda Magistrate’s Court fined the resort for selling a one-litre bottle priced at Rs. 100 for Rs. 400. 

In a separate case, a company in Ella was fined for selling a 500-millilitre bottle priced at Rs. 70 for Rs. 230. The authority said it will continue taking strict action against unfair pricing.
