Rising star Hasara Nanayakkara of Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala, etched her name in Sri Lanka’s sporting history by winning the gold medal in the 70m Open Recurve event at the National Archery Championship 2025 held at the BOI Grounds, Katunayake.

Competing against seasoned archers from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, and leading archery clubs across the island, the young prodigy displayed remarkable composure and precision to claim the top spot.

With this victory, Hasara Nanayakkara became the youngest archer ever to win the gold medal in this category, setting a new benchmark in Sri Lankan archery and underscoring the immense potential of youth talent in the sport. 

Her triumph is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala, as well as the broader archery community, proving that the next generation of athletes is ready to take the sport to greater heights.

Behind her success stands a strong circle of support – her personal coaches, Dharmasena and Indunil Pussella, whose unwavering guidance nurtured her talent and sharpened her skills. 

Equally instrumental has been the encouragement of Principal Nirodha Abeywickrama, whose steadfast backing inspired Hasara to dream big and pursue excellence.
