The Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) claimed that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) found no suspicious weapons or other items during a search of its office and the premises of former Minister Douglas Devananda on Stanley Road, Jaffna, on Monday (19). Meanwhile, a CID team visited the EPDP office in Kayts, Jaffna, on Tuesday (20), and questioned an official about an individual. According to the EPDP spokesperson Srikanth Panneerselvam, the official told the officers that he had no information about the said individual from the time that he began working at the office.

According to Panneerselvam, a six-member CID team from Colombo conducted the search at the Party’s office, located at the Srithadar Theatre premises, for more than three hours. He told The Daily Morning that the CID officers had informed the EPDP that they needed to search the premises following complaints and information alleging that illegal weapons were being kept there. The officers had obtained a search warrant from the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court, he said. The search covered the office and its surrounding premises. However, no suspicious weapons or other items of concern were found, Panneerselvam said.
