11 May 2026

  • For an explosive season two

The Sri Lanka Padel League (SLPL) 2026 Player Auction concluded ahead of the tournament’s second season, with franchises securing local and international talent for the competition scheduled to be held from 18-21 June at Padel House.

The auction brought together franchise owners, team managers, retained players and league partners, reflecting the growing scale of franchise padel in Sri Lanka.

The highest bid of the auction was recorded for Amritha Muttiah, who was secured by Yala Rangers for Rs. 185,000 following competition from multiple franchises.

Several leading female players, including Dinali De Silva, Shenalie Weerasekera and Upeka Wijeratne, also attracted strong interest during the auction.

The event also highlighted the crossover between tennis and padel in Sri Lanka, with a number of leading tennis players drafted by the League’s eight franchises.

Among the notable signings were brothers Jayin and Jaitra De Saram, who joined Weligama Sharks.

International participation was also evident, with 12 overseas players selected across franchises, including Martim Café and Rodrigo Nunes from Portugal.

The player pool additionally featured two female athletes from the Saudi Arabia National Padel Team through the League’s partnership with the Gaby Reca Academy, further strengthening the tournament’s international representation.

“As the auctioneer, I had a front-row seat to the intensity and strategy that unfolded throughout the night,” said League Director Karin Wijeratne.

“The level of competition has evolved dramatically in just one year. Every team has come back stronger, smarter and more prepared – and the rivalries are very real now.”

Yala Rangers Co-Owner Shamal Perera commented, “Securing Amritha was a major moment for us and a clear statement of intent. We believe this squad has the balance, experience and hunger to seriously compete for the title this season.”

TPL Director and of Ahangama Ballers Co-Owner Amrith De Soysa commented, “For a new franchise, this auction was all about building the right foundation. We’re extremely happy with the balance, character and competitive edge within this squad.”
