Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath noted that illegal activities involving some Sri Lankan nationals in Thailand, including drug-related incidents, contributed to Thailand’s decision to suspend visa-free entry for Sri Lankans.

The visa-free facility will be withdrawn from 15 September, requiring Sri Lankan travellers to obtain visas before departure.

Herath stated that Sri Lanka is discussing a bilateral visa agreement with Thailand, with the aim of restoring the facility.
