The Ministry of Labour has confirmed salary increments for private sector employees starting this year, in line with the 2025 Government budget proposal.
The new proposal includes an increase in the basic salary from Rs. 21,000 to Rs. 27,000, and the minimum wage will rise from Rs. 700 to Rs. 1080.
Currently, the Rs. 21,000 minimum wage comprises Rs. 17,500 under the National Minimum Wage of Workers (Amendment) Act, Rs. 1,000 under the Budgetary Relief Allowance of Worker Act, and Rs. 2,500 under the Budgetary Relief Allowance of Workers Act, with an additional Rs. 3,500 now added to the minimum wage.
The Ministry also announced plans for further increments, with the basic salary expected to reach Rs. 30,000 next year, and the minimum wage to rise to Rs. 1200.
The Cabinet has approved the proposal, and the necessary bill will be presented in Parliament soon.
